Under-recruited Future Stars

As we approach signing day for the class of 2014, that means we are only 12 months away from the very first Future Stars Game Alumni graduating in the class of 2015.  The Future Stars Game has numerous 4 and 5 star recruits that are on everybody’s radar.  Players like Torrance Gibson, Chauncey Rivers, De’Vante Phillips and Lorenzo Nunez.  But now we want to address some of the Future Stars Players that we feel are under-recruited.

-        Yaquis “Duke” Shelley DB Tucker HS – How is one of the most explosive players in the state of Georgia on one of the best teams so overlooked.  Prior to the 2011 season, Shelley had no offers and no real college interest.  Then week after week he put on performance after performance on the biggest stages from interceptions, to kick and punt returns.  Shelley is now rated a 4 star by some sources, but still not even listed on some recruiting sites.  In the Rising Seniors All-Star Game, the director stated that Shelley was the best cover corner to ever play in the game which has seen the top Georgia players over the past 6 years.  Current offers: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Tennessee

-        Trey Derouen OL Parkview HS – Currently standing 6-3 and weighing in at 309lbs we believe Trey is one of the best offensive linemen Georgia has to offer in the class of 2015.  He is an excellent student, physical, and a great athlete.  We feel that if Trey was at a school receiving more interest from college coaches, his offer list would be doubled.  Current offers: Duke, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt

-        Tucker Israel QB Lake Nona HS – Tucker set a region record with 37 touchdown passes as a sophomore to go with 3700 yards passing and being named Florida 5A Player of the Year as a Sophomore. As a junior he only broke that record throwing for 40 TDs and almost 4000 yards.  He did all of this while completing over 65% of his passes.  Over his first three years in high school, he has thrown for 10,500 yards and 106 touchdowns. Current offers: Clemson, Florida

-        Delvin Weems RB Sandy Creek HS – Playing for one of the top teams in the state Weems has produced some incredible numbers while sharing carries with another D1 prospect in the backfield.  As a sophomore Weems rushed for 1,042 yards and followed that with 1,158 yards as a junior.  He did all of this while averaging almost 9 yards a carry.  He is extremely quick with excellent vision.  No current offers

-        Dexter Carter Jr RB Bolles School – Carter is an extremely quick all purpose back with big play potential playing against some of the best competition in Florida.  He has produced some outstanding numbers in his sophomore and junior season averaging almost 9 yards per carry.  Current Offers – Auburn, MTSU

-        Chanin Hamilton RB Dooley County HS – Hamilton is a kid with sprinters speed making him a threat every time he touches the ball.  He rushed for 1,358 yards as a sophomore leading his team to a state championship finals appearance.  With his speed and play making ability, we expect his recruiting to really pick up.  Current offers: UAB

-        Nick Lundie  WR Tucker HS – Lundie is a very physical 6-3 WR with good speed that loves to lay bone crushing blocks in the running game.  Nick has always found a way to make a big play when his team needs it, whether in the passing game or big blocks in the running game.  Including a hail mary catch at the end of the regular season game matching the #1 and #2 teams in the state at the time.  Still, entering the Elite Junior All-Star Game last month Lundie had no offers.  After several circus catches and one bone crushing block, in the all-star game,  Lundie picked up 3 offers.  Look for more to come.  Current offers: Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Missouri

-        Christian Bermudez RB Bolles School – Christian rushed for 1500 yards and averaged over 8 yards a carry as a junior for the Florida powerhouse. Standing 6’1 and 210lbs, Bermudez is your prototypical tailback, built for endurance with explosive athletic ability.  No current offers.

-        Jaye Miner S  Wireglass High – Jaye is a 6-3 run stuffing safety that always seems to find himself around the ball.  Jaye recorded 131 tackles his junior season and 20 tackles for loss.  It was highlighted by a 25 tackle game in October. An excellent person on and off the field, look for Jaye to be a recruiting gem for some team. No current offers

-        Bricen Terry  RB Creekside High – Terry capped off a spectacular junior season by rushing for 143 yards in the state championship game leading his team to an undefeated season and Georgia state title.  Terry has eclipsed the 1000 yard mark in both his sophomore and junior seasons, while splitting carries with D1 prospect Dexter Knox.  Look for his numbers to explode in 2014 once he takes on a heavier load with Knox departing. No current offers.

  1. Great article! Hopefully more schools become aware of the Future Stars game and it’s players which will allow kids to get on the radar of schools much sooner.
